on College Football from Da GOAT's perspective
College football for Da Goat is more then just football itself. It is better then Christmas and Thanksgiving and all that's in between. It's late nights after games sitting in garages and listening to great guitar players that the outside world will never hear. It's arguing with my family about how bad ALABAMA football really is. It's having friends over for the "Red River Shoot-Out", and eating TEX-MEX for the first time. It's "Mo Wickey" and the "By-God Texas Longhorns". It's great food on the grill and Brunswick Stew on the stove. It's cold beer in every one's cooler and "NC Spring Water" that seems to never stop flowing. It's the ONLY Auburn fan in the house, outnumbered, but defending his team to the death. It's tailgating in 100 degree heat at UCF because the LONGHORNS are in town. (if you've never been to UCF, the scenery is ridiculous). It's arguing with the wife because the "Florida St. game IS more important then a funeral," NO ONE should be buried on Saturday between September and January. It's teaching my little man the In's and outs of all that is "College Football" and laughing because he's too young to understand why daddy keeps breaking thing and yelling at the TV. It's the loved ones not understanding that if FSU loses, LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE.....REALLY! It's the OSU fans making a case for their team to get to the NC game only to get DESTROYED again by the SEC. It's being in the student section of the Wisconsin/Arkansas bowl game and "Jumping Around" at the end of the third quarter.
It's turning the TV all the way down and listening to the game on the radio.
It's Herbie and Corso and "Drunk Uncle Lou". It's ELI GOLD. It's Erin Andrews. It's Keith Jackson. It's Brent Musburger, Mike Tirico and Chris Fowler.
It's College Football season.....The best time of the year.

Thank you for your recent order of 500 tubes of Lotrimin Ultra Jock Itch Cream. Your order has been shipped, and thank you for your business.
It should also be noted that all "balls" should be cleaned thoroughly prior to being handled by team members, coaches and staff as "tinea cruris" is highly contagious. All individuals handling dirty "balls" are highly susceptible to being exposed to further contamination.

On the Outcome of the Clemson/Alabama Match-Up
This is the third part in my three part series on the Clemson/Alabama match-up opening weekend in college football. To start off, this is a HUGE match-up between these two schools who have not met since 1975, and that year Alabama squeaked by, 56-0. Alabama owns this series overall boasting an 11-2 record overall vs. Clemson. Is the “Tide” about to change?
Field Advantage: None
In this match-up Clemson is not an overwhelming favorite; the line on this game opened at Clemson -5 and has moved very little. This could be attributed to the game being playing in a neutral location. Both teams have sold-out there allotment of tickets and both schools have requested more, so the crowd should be split down the middle and neither school should have an advantage.
Offense Line: Alabama
DA’ GOAT loves veteran units that have played together for a long period of time and this group is it. IF they can protect JPW, this could turn into a ball game.
Running Backs: Clemson
Two All-American’s rightly dubbed “Thunder & Lightning”, if they get loose Alabama is in trouble. Not only have that but if they get rolling, it will take the pressure off of Cullen Harper to make big plays.
Quarter Back: Clemson
Cullen Harper, please see prior post. This guy is good and makes very few mistakes. He gets the nod here as JPW is too inconsistent with ball in his hands, and he has to deal with a couple of young inexperienced receivers. The same cannot be said for Harper who is surrounded by a veteran group.
Wide Receivers: Clemson
Aaron Kelly will have his hands full getting open but there are other very talented, physical receivers capable of taking it the distance at Cullen Harpers disposal. I am on the Julio Jones band wagon, but he will get the most attention and probably be a non-factor in this game. Can’t wait to see Jones mature as the season progresses, but not against Clemson.
Defense Line: Alabama
Like both, not very deep on both side but Alabama has a veteran unit upfront on the O-line and that will pose problems for the D-Coordinator. Stunt and blitz schemes will be used early and often for Clemson to try to confuse the Alabama line and make plays. Clemson’s O-line is suspect at best, so look for Kevin Steele to take advantage of that with his front group.
Linebackers: Push
Neither is great, both are young, both will pay a major role and expect the unexpected here.
Secondary: Clemson
Although Alabama’s D-backs are no slouches, Clemson again has All-American’s, award candidates and so on in a secondary that led the ACC last year in pass defense. This group has been together a while now and it will show in this game. If JPW makes a mistake, this secondary will make him pay.
Special Teams: Alabama
Leigh Tiffin is not great from long range, but if it comes down to field goals, Alabama has the edge, and I will be out of loot in a hurry, but don’t look for that to happen. I like Alabama for another reason in this spot, and his name is JAVIER AREANAS. He didn’t get any love earlier in my blog but this guys reminds DA’ GOAT of names like “Rocket” Ismail, David Palmer, Charles Woodson, and Devin Hester to name a few. Areanas only needs a small crease and GOOD BYE. Please see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UJMgAQA7c4&feature=related for more info on this guy.
Prediction:
DA’ GOAT is on the Clemson band wagon and thinks that a cover at -5 is not going to be a problem in this game. Clemson, although in the ACC has the talent on paper to blow-out Alabama, but Saban will not let that happen. However, Bowden is due and this game is his teams coming out party….
DA’ GOATS PICK

Final Score 31-17 Clemson

on the Clemson Tigers
Clemson
Offense:
Offensive Line-
Opposite a decent Alabama D Line is a very young and inexperienced front O–Line for the Clemson Tigers. The Tigers lost 4 starters across the front, only returning Thomas Austin at the center position and Chris Hairston at tackle. This could pose a very big problem and could hold back a juggernaut of an offense the Tigers boast. Tommy Bowden doesn’t really know what to think about this line other then they have been doing “OK” in scrimmages, (DA’ GOAT is a little worried about this) and will have to wait and see in “live” action.
Running Backs-
LOOK OUT! That is about the only thing DA’ GOAT can say about arguably the best tandem of running backs in the country if the O-Line can open some holes and block some folks. C.J. Spiller and James Davis are both Pre-Season All-Americans and the Tigers averaged 162 yards on the ground last year…That gets a “YO!”. These guys can break a big play on any down and with the slightest of creases. Also, these guys can catch the ball out of the backfield, both with very soft hands and an uncanny feel for the game. These guys are “Game-Breakers” and will be very vital in beating the Tide come August 30th., given the O-Line puts a hat on somebody.
QB-
Like DA’ GOAT said “Offensive juggernaut”. Cullen Harper is OUTSTANDING. He is easily the best in the ACC, if not the country (and DA GOAT is NOT stepping out here). You might not have ever heard of this guy before, so if you haven’t…….Meet Cullen Harper. Harper is a 6’2, 220 pound senior from Alpharetta, GA. He completed 65.1% of his passes last year for just south of 3,000 yards. His 27 TD’s to only 6 picks is a sign that he knows where to throw the rock and rarely makes mistakes with the ball in his hand. His passer rating of 140.96 is tops among returning QB’s in ALL OF THE COUNTRY. He has a core of veteran talented receivers to choose from and of course the horses in the backfield for swing passes and dumps if he gets into trouble. His success again, hinges solely on the “big uglies” upfront. If Clemson gets on a roll this year and can keep it going, watch for Harper to make some real noise in Heisman.
And remember this name….Willie Korn. This guy is a Red-shirt soph. with a cannon strapped to his shoulder. If Harper goes down, Bowden will not hesitate to put Korn in, and quickly change the offense to a triple threat option look.
Wide Receivers-
This is a core group that Harper has at his disposal lead by pre-season All-American Aaron Kelly. Kelly is a 6’5, 190 pound Senior and is lightning fast. Kelly led the ACC last year with 88 receptions for 1,081 yards. His 11TD’s were tops as well. He is a big speedy target with soft hands a knack for finding holes in the defense, but can also blow past the best DB for 6 over the top. Beside Kelly is Senior Tyler Grisham who quietly had a solid season last year, lighting up defenses for 650 yards and 4 TD’s on 60 catches. He is also a threat for an occasional reverse or trick play from the slot position. Also, Jacoby Ford, the speedy slot receiver had 4 TD’s and 300+ yards last year. Any one of these guys can break a big play, and Harper has his choice of any of them on any down for a big play.
Defense-
The D-Line of Clemson is very strong, anchored by DE Ricky Sapp who should have a big year again this year against as a pass rusher. This line is very deep as well, so Bowden can platoon his D-line and not expect to fall of that much this year. The line-backing corp. is depleted after 2 key starters are gone and 1 dismissed from the team. Like Bama, this now young group, will have to step up early and often or teams will exploit them in a hurry. Once you get past the linebackers, expect to get HIT IN THE MOUTH by a veteran and very stingy secondary. Led by yet again, another All-American Michael Hamlin and Thorpe award candidate Chris Chancellor this secondary led the ACC in pass defense a year ago. Alabama does not match-up very well against this group, and it will show early and often. This are very big physical guys that love contact…..Julio Jones, BEWARE.
Special Teams-
Horrible, atrocious, and just plain bad. This Bowden is as scared as his dad when the FG kickers walks onto the field. They are also stupid bad on covering kicks as well…but do have a bright spot in return man C.J. Spiller. This may play a key role in the outcome of this game.
Feel free to comment…
Coming tomorrow, is DA’GOAT’s prediction on this one, and a key role player that may make an impact for one of these ball clubs that could be huge….stay tuned.

A letter to H. Schnellenberger.....
I have a question for you, "are you out of your f***ing mind?" Did I recently read that you actually think you're team is going waltz into DKR Stadium and "push around" the Texas Longhorns? Sir, have you fallen and bumped your head? Are you drunk? Bartender no "Mo' Whickey" for this guy, because he has obviously had WAY too much....come back to reality.....we'll wait. Your village called.....you can come back now.
Sir, have you noticed that you coach at FAU? For those that don't know that's Florida Atlantic University. You coach in the Sunbelt Conference, and that's not all bad, but again you coach in the Sunbelt Conference?!?!?! I understand that your team play's Troy, FIU, and Arkansas State year in and year out, but do you really think that prepares you to even ENTER the "Lonestar State" let alone play the "By-god Texas Longhorns"?!?!? Not only did you think that you would go in and play Texas in a game, but you gave them "Bulletin Board" material as well?!?!
And I quote "Once we step out on the field with Texas, the only ones who can help us is ourselves," Schnellenberger told University Press. "Texas always has a very polished team that has great talent, but they aren't tough; they aren't a physically tough team."
"My defense will get to a point where they will be mean, nasty and ornery [expletive], and that's what you need for Texas. Texas will move the ball with tit-for-tat, screens and options, but we'll make them pay a price whenever they catch one of those dinky passes. We'll put three hats on them and make them not want to get up; that's the way to beat Texas."
Mr. ''Destin for Hell-neberger" what is wrong with you.....really? I don't give a flip'n sh*t how "mean, nasty and ornery" your defense will get, they will still get rolled. Try to make them pay for those "dinky" passes....your DB's will get thier ankles broke and leave thier jockey straps sitting where the Longhorn player caught the ball! Did it ever dawn on you that Mack Brown has won 10 games a year since the conception of time for a reason? He doesn't worry about FAU, and no they are not "planning for this game".
Snelly, can I call you "Snelly"? Your name is WAY too long to keep writing it out. Everyone inside AND outside the FAU compounds already know that your team does not stand a chance even though you have Rusty Smith as your QB. Yes he's good, and yes your WR's are probably good too, but good god man, your FAU?!?!? Those players are there for a reason....they couldn't get into/play for TEXAS....or any other school for that matter.
I recently interviewed Mack Brown at this was his comments:
"Howard who?"
"Oh yeah, Snelly, I remember that guy"
"Old balls, sagging skin, gross"
"We welcome his band of thugs to Texas, good luck leaving"
He abruptly ended the interview when God called for his season tickets.
In closing, Snelly, in the future if you want to call out Troy then fine but a word to the wise "If you mess with TEXAS, you get the HORNS"
Texas -23(sportsbook.com) to the bank…
Final Score: 55-10 Texas
Godspeed Snelly.
Signed,
DA’ GOAT

About the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
OFFENSE
Offensive Line-
93 combine starts....This is a veteran unit. They will be vital in protecting John Parker Wilson and opening holes for a great group of RB's to get loose and run wild. However, any injuries up front may pose a problem as this is not a very deep unit.
Running Backs-
Terry Grant is a 5'10, 180+ pound Sophomore from Lumberton, MS who can flat out fly. In 2007 Grant rushed for just south of 900 yards and 8 TD's. He also had 175 receiving yards out of the backfield and a score also. Grant should see a lot of touches this year if he can stay healthy.
Glenn Coffee is a 6'2, 195 pound Junior from Fort Walton Beach, FL. Although Coffee had to take 4 games off last season, he still accumulated 545 yards and 4 scores. Coffee is an animal to take down and should punish defenses all year. He has to stay healthy as well for this offense to get ROLL'N.
Roy Upchurch is a 6'0 190 pound Junior from Tallahassee, used mainly as a "scat" back. He is a speedy guy who can blow thru a hole and take it the distance at any time. He'll need to step up this year to really get a lot of looks and touches with the others that can run on this offense.
WR-
This is a real mystery to everyone outside of Tuscaloosa this year. Mike McCoy should be JPW'S favorite target outside of some guy named Julio Jones? I have never heard of this guy but everyone says he is the Randy Moss of the college ranks....and he's a FRESHMAN. Will Oakley should get some looks and the TE position will be key in setting this offense up for big gains over the top and the running the ball. I am interested to see how this group will stack-up against the SEC's elite as JPW will need all the help he can get. This position may be the down fall of the Tide this year after enjoying the likes of DJ Hall, Keith Brown, TY Prothro, and many others. OK, so i have heard of Julio Jones the "freshman phenom" who will also have a a lot of weight on his shoulders, and will be expected to live up to his billing of "Superman" early and often. His autographed jersey should be delivered via DHL in the next couple of days....THE GOAT is already on this guys band wagon. http://www.julioheismanwatch.com/ ......Starting it today.
QB-
John Parker Wilson is a 6'2, 213 pound gun slinger from Hoover, AL. JPW for short, completed 55.2% of his attempts last year and had 18 TD's as a Junior. The problem with JPW is he has a tendency to rush his throws when he feels pressure or try to make to much happen, which often leads to him throwing the rock to the other team. JPW had 12 picks last year vs. 18 td's, which leads Tide fans to wonder when lets the ball go....where is it going? Further, he cannot rely on a group of veteran WR's to bail him out if he gets in trouble. He will need to rely on quick dumps to the RB's out the back field and short routes, until he gets completely comfortable with his young group of WR's. He was sacked 27 times last year, so he will need to be more mobile this year and the line will have to give him more time to work. He has improved every year at Alabama and this year should be no different, provided his young Wide Receiving corp can help him out.
DEFENSE
Would love to break this defense down, however I have heard of two guys on this defense, Prince Hall and Rolando McClain. Good Luck this year. Could get rough...
Special Teams
The Tide, in the past, have held their respective breathes every time a kicker goes onto the field and this year will be no different. Leigh Tiffin is money inside of 30 yards, otherwise WATCH-OUT.

DA' GOATS Top 5 thoughts
1. Georgia
This is a truly talented team top to bottom that has had some injuries of late, but Mark Richt has talent in the wings and they are not IN TROUBLE......yet. This team will stay atop the ranking until Sept. 15, right after USC dismantles OSU. Not only that but their could EASILY be 3 losses on this schedule as it sits. Everyone knows this schedule is the most brutal in a long time in CF and the AD needs to be fired, but if UGA can survive.....bring on O'ferSU(stupid voters)
DA GOAT'S Prediction (10-2)
2. USC
Dirty Sanchez went down with a dislocated knee cap(i just puked) a week ago but is expected to make it back by opening day, if not they have a back-up....never heard of him? Let me refresh you...he was a STARTER at Arkansas for a short period....The highly touted Mitch Mustain. And yes, he's on the bench at USC. Not only that, but Joe McKnight has a lot to prove after being as highly sought after as Julio Jones was. And he is an animal in the back field. This team will Dismantle OSU, mark it down, take a picture, make your argument, i don't care, this one is over right now......Kirk Herbstriet beware...After that it's business as usual, and unless Pete Carroll forgets how to coach, they should be chasing a big trophy in the end.....
DA' GOAT'S prediction (11-1)
3. "The" O'Fer State University
Good Grief, where do i start. I will not get into detail with team because you don't need a crystal ball to figure out what's going to happen to the BUFFALO BILLS....i mean O'fer State. They will lose to USC, probably Illinois, maybe Wisconsin, and surly an SEC team(insert Vanderbilt here). But, because the voters are in love with this team, they are ranked up this high. Beanie Wells is great, the defense is solid, and the QB is OK. Until they beat an SEC team, or a solid non-conference game, they get ZERO respect on this page. Argue all you want, your Ohio St. comment will be destroyed, dismantled, exposed, blown-up, etc......WIN A BIG GAME
DA' GOAT'S Prediction (10-2) and a National Championship berth not deserved.......and a loss in that game AGAIN

4. Oklahoma
Where does Stoops get these guys from? I have not heard anything out of Norman this entire year outside of arrests and such, but here they sit in the number 4 spot. Oh yeah.....Sam Bradford and Demarco Murray! I forgot that OU is LOADED again with talent. there is a gaping hole in the linebacking corp, after losing Curtis Lofton to the NFL, but they reload, not rebuild down there. Their schedule interests me. At face value it looks relatively hard, but upon closer inspection, it actually could get easy for OU. All of there BIG games are at home this year, minus closing the season @ Oklahoma St. which should be decent to mediocre this year. This team interests me and will get further review....
DA' GOATS Prediction (11-1) and could back-door the NC game...stay tuned
5. Florida Ghators (who wear jorts and crocs)
I HATE THE GHATORS....however, i have to talk about them to complete this.....Urban Meyer is in the same boat as Mark Richt. Surrounded by far and above the most talent, but the schedule is just brutal. @ Georgia(JAX), Tennessee, ARK, and FSU....and UM, SC, LSU and UK at home, any of which could beat the GHators.....HOWEVER, they have more speed then any other team, and now Tebow has help in the back field....not that he needed it. Tebow throws 60 yard bombs on a regular.....while eating hot dogs, and drinking kerosene....Percy Harvin is David Palmer all over again, and Andre Caldwell catches everything thrown his way...and somethings that aren't. The Defense is solid, not great, but could get better as the year progresses....watch this team...can they stay up this high......They should but defalt back to the schedule
DA' GOAT'S Prediction (10-2)
Not mentioned...what my top five is RIGHT NOW....or my best guess!
1. USC
2. Oklahoma
3. Florida
4. Auburn
5. Clemson(Stepping out on this one)
(DISCLAIMER....Georgia belongs in the top spot, but there schedule makes me not even want to put them up here, because i know the outcome)

Line Movements
I don't normally come out this early with a pick but the mortgage is due and we got to get the bank roll up. There is a huge storm brewing and here it is:
Tennessee vs. UCLA+7 (MGM current line)
Take Tennessee, buy the half point down to -6.5 and get your action down!

This is a "4 star game" for THE GOAT right out of the gate
This line is ridiculous considering....
UCLA just lost both their starting QB's and Tennesseee has a lot to prove this year. I don't care
that Tennessee has to go on the road to play this game, the talent level for UCLA without 2 starting QB'S is not even close. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that Fulmer will have his guys ready for this game as Tennessee has to prove they are back among the nations elite teams.
THE GOAT likes this game RIGHT NOW* at the current number, and believe me, this line is going WAY UP in the coming days if not hrs. GET ON IT IF YOU CAN....
LOCKED IN
Tennessee -6.5 (Half point buy)

Opening Comments
Here you will find information about college football, more college football, probably some college football, and some HOTD'S on occasions if THE GOAT has a good week.
I pick college football spread's, money-lines, prop bets, and O/U'S for all of you for nothing more then to prove i can win, and i will. Every week/day i will posts my thoughts on teams, preformance's, how good the SEC is, and match-ups. During the week i put my picks for the weekend out for you to look at and if you like, place bets on(if i prove i can win of course). This not a gambling site, it is simply my blog on my thoughts about the abovementioned items and they way i think things will go. You may at anytime agree/disagree with my opinion if you like and explain your reasoning, or pick your own games and match them up against mine.
I do not break-down games like "Sharps" do, i simply see a game or two that it appear that Vegas has blown it on, check out a couple of things and give my thoughts. I went a DOCUMENTED 70-24 last year in college football. (If you don't beleive me then fine, just stick around).
I will pick games based on a scoring system that i will explain later on as we get closer to Aug. 30th when The Crimson Tide square off against the Clemson Tigers. My system is based on a "star sytem" for how much i like the game/match-up. Most of the games i pick may not be available for betting at all venues, so be aware of this as well. So if you would like, stick around, post if you like and maybe win some cash!
